Student AmbassadorsNNSA Student Ambassadors are a valuable resource. Those selected as Student Ambassadors have completed an internship at an NNSA site or laboratory. They provide a point of contact for prospective student interns, professors, and even parents who want to gain a better understanding of the NNSA Consortium Internship Program. The NNSA is tasked with maintaining and overseeing the nation’s nuclear weaponry and energy supplies. The point of view a student ambassador has is unique – mainly because the work of the NNSA is scientifically and technically complex and guarded for obvious reasons. Student Ambassadors and internship applicants are screened to make certain they are appropriate candidates for the level of responsibility that the work entails. A Student Ambassador’s main function is to give an accurate description of his or her NNSA experience so other prospective interns interested in working for this highly respected government agency can decide if they would like to apply to be interns. Student Ambassadors represent the NNSA Consortium Internship Program in a variety of ways. They attend conferences sponsored by Consortium members, distribute internship information at their university campuses, and speak directly to outstanding students in STEM fields about applying to the program. In addition, Student Ambassadors provide feedback about the NNSA program and their working relationships with program mentors.
